Atelier Augarten
Today's Atelier Augarten, located in the northeastern corner of the Augarten near Scherzergasse, was built in the 1950s by the Republic of Austira for the artist and sculptor Gustinus Ambrosi and consists of a light-flooded studio wing and a residential building.
After his death, the studio became a museum.
In 2012, Francesca Habsburg and her foundation Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21) moved into the space. Five years later, she moved out again
After the departure of TBA21, the space was only occasionally used, for example by the Kiev Biennale or Foto Wien.
In its search for a suitable use, the Burghauptmannschaft Österreich has decided to establish Atelier Augarten as a new center for contemporary art, cultural and scientific events in Vienna, open to national and international artists.
To this end, the area will be adapted to modern standards and transformed into a lively place for artistic encounters, exhibitions and events. Renovation work is expected to begin in 2025 and will be completed in stages.
The opening of the space for cultural events will take place during the construction phase.
Upon completion, the studio will be expanded to include a restaurant and the Arik Brauer Lounge. This is a special, permanent space dedicated to the recently deceased artist and featuring works from his estate.
We look forward to your visit!
